During my research internship from June to September 2021 in the Galician Institute of High Energy Physics (IGFAE), I had the opportunity to work on the study and operation of a prototype for the LHCb Vertex Locator (VELO). My work involved operating high-rate data acquisition systems and analyzing the data collected by the VELO prototype. Additionally, I delved into the interactions between radiation and matter using a module from the latest VELO update, which is a pixel detector (VeloPix). This involved testing the VeloPix’s response to various types of radiation and running Monte Carlo simulations to study the detector’s behavior. Part of my role was exploring new data acquisition methods with the VeloPix and incorporating new functionalities into the detector’s data acquisition system.
